The Master Chefs at the Broom Tree Retreat in Lake Geneva, WI

Hamming it up with spoons and potato masher are Susie Hayden, Laura Vander Wahl and Peg Janecko.

They may be clowning here but oh what they can create in the kitchen!  Susie and her pink rubber gloves keep the dishes washed and veggies chopped and anything else Peg and Laura can come up with.   By 3 PM the delicious aromas of roast beast and sides waft through the house to tempt folks to congregate near the table. Salads, rolls and desserts finish off their presentations of culinary treasures.

Pray for Nepal

We just received this prayer from our missionary friends who are in Nepal right now.  They were mercifully not in their home when the earthquake hit.  As Doctor and Nurse are very busy helping in this disaster.

Prayer:
1. Pray for the needy to get the resources. Big relief cargo planes are coming in. There are landslides blocking roads and difficult navigation in the mountains.
2. Pray that Ted and other medical people to make good decisions on patients even when they are weary.
3. We went across the city to be with the Lhomi Church for a few hours. We prayed together and the church really wants the Lord’s wisdom as to how to respond best to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs. We do know of 2 churches that collapsed and many members died.
4. Pray for the rain to stop. It is hard enough to be outside living under tarps. It has rained much since the earthquake.

Broom Tree’s Teams

THE PRAYER TEAM

One of the most important teams is the 50+ people who pray for the pastor guests who come to the retreats.  Cheri Nelson co-ordinates this team by sending each prayer partner the photo of the couple they will pray for and any specific requests that couple may have.

God will often stir the prayer partner to include a specific scripture in the letter that has special meaning to the pastor couple!

These folks are also the team we turn to for specific requests for Broom Tree.

The Donor Team

Another very important team is one that rarely knowingly gets together.  But they are a team and a very important one.  Many a guest has expressed how encouraging it is to them that believers, who do not know them, would give generously so they could enjoy this Sabbath time.   Many of our pastor guests do not have the funds to afford this type of retreat.  Those who may have the funds hesitate to use that for themselves and use it either for their children or a family vacation.

Also providing retreats free for pastors, removes every reason for them to not go away.  It is also a positive acknowledgement for the churches that their own pastor is valued and being taken care of by the wider body of believers.  That becomes an alert that they should also take care of their pastor.
